I’m a freelance writer and surfer from the Central Coast of California. As a kid, I grew up taking camping trips to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It was on these trips that my love for nature began to take root. It was also when I picked up fly-fishing, which I am still terrible at but love to do nonetheless. I began surfing in my teens and quickly became immersed in it, which lead to a fair bit of traveling in pursuit of waves. Many of the world's best wave zones are located in extremely impoverished areas and as a result of traveling to such locations in search of waves, my eyes were opened to the harsh reality of the poverty and injustice that exists in much of the world. This realization created a desire to help in some way, so now I try to incorporate some form of giving back on my travels whenever possible. Throughout my life, writing has proved to be a catalyst which allows me to combine these passions and has provided a much needed creative outlet. These days I reside in California where I write a column for Deep Magazine.
